So at Supanova I got my third-ever Doctor Who figure, the Silurian General Restac (the one in the red coat). I’d been keeping an eye out for one ever since I got the Silurian Warrior Alaya (the one in the mask). I prefer the Classic Who designs for the Silurians, but I appreciate that they’d look like men in rubber suits in this day and age.
The modern Doctor Who toys don’t have the best articulation. In particular, the arms can only rotate at the shoulder, so they can’t go outwards. Alaya has slightly more articulation than Restac owing to a waist joint where she has a red band. Both of them have great sculpts, though, with lots of detail. They do share some parts though. It wouldn’t trouble me (they are pretty identical in the show) except that Restac has a scar over one eye which isn’t on the figure, since she shares the head mold with Alaya.
I said above that I got Alaya first. That was because she came with more stuff. Restac only has a gun. Alaya has a gun, a chain (it attaches to one arm, since she was chained to a wall for most of her screentime), and the seriously awesome mask. Even though I don’t really like the modern Silurian face, I adore the mask. It looks so sinister, and it gives some personality to the otherwise blank-faced figure.
